MISS SONOMA
SONOMA Boutique and Blog LAUNCH!! www.sonomahair.com!
SONOMA Hair Collection was conceived like most babies are, on a rainy, dark Saturday afternoon. After watching one too many VH1 specials and seeing one too many celebrities with the hair styles and looks that I was trying to achieve, I could not understand why I too couldnāt have the quality hair and styling that they had. 10 years of wearing weave/extensions (amongst other styles) and I definitely crowned myself a Hair-nista ā it was time for me to step my game up!
After much travel and research, SONOMA Hair Collection developed a team in India who selected the best Virgin Remy Indian hair and produced a premium product. Our SONOMA NATURAL Collection is made up of Natural Indian Curly, Natural Indian Straight and Natural Indian Wavy hair. All hair is hand selected, cut, cleansed and wefted by our talented team of professionals.
SONOMA NATURAL ā Indian Curly Hair
The 2nd order of business was the creation of our SONOMA MATCH Collection. This collection was a tribute to every woman who has ever walked out of the salon with natural roots that simply didnāt match her silky Indian inspired hair. (We all have witnessed such tragedy lol) Out of this vision, the team created the Caribbean Curl, Relaxed Texture Clip-in hair and the Blond Clip-in hair that has been steam treated to MATCH hair that is often difficult to MATCH with the NATURAL textures. All hair is high quality Remy Hair.
SONOMA MATCH – Caribbean Curl Hair
We expanded our market into Bermuda where we conducted a photoshoot with local models. The photoshoot, by globally recognized photographer Alex Masters realized the vision that was conceived on that rainy Saturday afternoon. Stylist/Jewelry designer Perri Gold tastefully styled the shoot, and included many of her avant-guard pieces and designs. (http://www.colorspace.am/ Ā & http://thegoldlabel.tumblr.com)
SONOMA Hair Collection developed into a blog that has had over 10,000 views, and a following that has become more of a group of sisters sharing hair secrets and extending a hand around the globe to make sure that none of us step out of the house looking a mess!
Today, the baby has been born. Born to over 1,500 sisters who cant get enough of turning heads, exuding confidence and just being FABULOUS! Enjoy the Blog and Boutique and of course email me at Madison@sonomahair.com!
Now RUN to www.sonomahair.comĀ & be sure to save as a favorite!

Growth Tactics
Iām shamelessly basing this post around the fantastic news of the week! Our royal couple Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting a baby! Its fair if you werenāt as excited as me upon hearing the news, however when my girl threw her Dolce & Gabbana sequence jacket off at the VMAās to show off that belly, the reaction that Jay gave was priceless (as I screamed in my room)!
Anyway, all this baby talk has me in a baby Ā state of mind. How does this relate to hair? All of my pregnant friends rock a baby bump and a head full of thick and healthy hair. Why? Pre-natal vitamans! Apparently they feed the hair with extra nutrients that are healthy for the baby and fabulous for the hair and growth Dah-ling!. So for us who arenāt preggers, what can we do to help to push the growth of our hair along?
Here are 3 good growth aids (that I have actually tried). These work best while also giving your hair a break from blowdrying and heat ā so a weave/extensions is a great option as the base braids keep your hair tucked away and healthy.
Biotin –Ā Biotin is necessary for cell growth. Cell growth is necessary for hair growth. Biotin supplements are available in pharmacies and it assists with hair and nail growth. My Biotin product of choice? Liquid Biosil!. It truly works. Mix a couple drops with your morning juice and prepare to see results.
Nioxin Vitamins ā These vitamins focus on the improvement in elasticity, thickness and collagen formation. These vitamins to help promote healthy hair and nail growth and also provide elasticity for skin to look more youthful.Ā With patience (which I know I lack) you will see increased hair growth while using them.
Megatek ā Ok. Let me preface this by saying that this treatment will sound odd, but strangely, it works! This product was originally created to promote longer and fuller hair in show horses but now it seems that it works equally as well on humans! (Not sure who the first person was to discover this but oh well!) It is now being sold for human use and you will see speedy growth rates while applying this treatment to your scalp a couple times a week. If your hair is braided up, a bottle with a nozzle works best for application.
Well there you go. We all aren’t preggers, but we canĀ certainly have a head full of healthy hair like we are! Ā Happy growing!
MISS SONOMA
Unconventional & Unintentional
Iām a Gemini in every true sense. I donāt like routine, I crave an element of action, Iām slightly disorderly and extremely spirited. So, very much like my personality, I prefer my hairstyles to be unintentionally chic rather than impeccable. What Iām trying to say is that I will always prefer the messy bun or up-do in comparison to the slicked back, not one hair out of place look. So you can imagine how my heart melted when I saw this recent picture of Rihanna Ā (Rih Rih in my head) on a yacht vacation. Her look is to die for! – The perfect combination of clean lines, bold lips and a messy up-do.
Rihannaās loose curls which can be achieved using SONOMA Hair Collections Indian Curly hair has been maneuvered off of her neck and pinned up. The combination of her YSL tailored jumpsuit, red lip and dark sunglasses is classic.
When attempting to achieve this look with our hair extensions, ask your stylist to braid your hair in a pattern with your edges out. A circle braid Ā design would work well. (click on link to read our post on achieving that design)
There is nothing more head turning than effortless beauty. Achieve it with SONOMA Hair collection, and then send us the pictures! We would love to see. – consultant@sonomahair.com
Until next time,

Parade of Beauty
Itās the most wonderful timmme of the year. Ā No it isnāt Christmas, not football season (but that comes in a close second)⦠ItāsĀ amost time for theĀ Miss Universe pageant! Ā For the girly girls out there, Im sure that you will agree that nothing beats sitting on the couch with your mother, sister or friends totally mesmerizedĀ by these perfect gazelle-esqĀ women parading down the runway in anticipation of winning the title of Miss Universe! (What a grandiose title).
Iāve gotten a sneak peak at the contestants and they are in for a tight race. Next to the amazing bedazzled dresses, all in gorgeous jewel tones, the thing that totally makes or breaks the women is their hair. I got a peak of the contestants on www.missuniverse.com and letās just say that competition is stiff. I chose the hair that looked most similar to Sonomaās Hair Collection. Check out my picks below:
Miss Haiti ā Anedie Azael
Miss HaitiĀ looks gorgeous with her head crowned in her Natural curly coif.Ā Her eccentric look is sure to set her apart from the other contestants. Sonoma Hair Collections Caribbean Curl Hair, cut and fluffed out can give you a similar look. Its up to you to add the dash of glamour that she is giving!
Ā
Miss Sri Lanka – Stephanie Siriwardhana
Miss Sri Lankaās natural curls are almost giving her an innocence which is beautiful. Her stunning mane frames her face perfectly and has the body that I know will float down that runway when her time comes to shine. Sonoma Hair Collections Natural Indian Curl Hair can give you similar curls and body achieved by the gorgeous Miss Sri Lanka
Ā
Miss IndiaĀ –Ā Vasuki Sunkavalli
Miss Indiaās natural beauty is magnified by her natural straight black hair. Her stunning angles in her face are brought out by her crown of gorgeous black hair. Sonoma Hair Collections Natural Indian Straight Hair can assist you in achieving a similar look.
Ā
Miss Bahamas – Anastagia Pierre
Ā Island princess Anastagia Pierre poses with sweeping relaxed straight hair. Her wispy style could best be achieved using Sonoma Hair Collections Relaxed Textured Clip-hair. You would be able to clip in according to the thickness that you wish to achieve. Miss Bahamas does this style full justice!
Ā
Miss Czech Republic – Jitka Novackova
Miss Czech Republic looks carries a natural beach blown beauty. Her sun bleach blond hair that also has a slight wave will translate into absolute beauty during the competition. Sonoma Hair Collections Blond Clip āin Hair will assist you in easily achieving this look. Just clip in, wet the hair, put in 2 large braids and then take out to get these subtle waves.
Ā
Miss Angola ā Leila Lopes
The gorgeous Miss Angola rocks subtle waves for the pageant that assists in giving her a really sexy look. Although Sonoma Hair Collections Natural Wavy Hair is wavier than that of Miss Angolas, by brushing out the waves, you would be able to achieve a similar look. I know that she will undoubtedly be a knock out on the runway on pageant day.
Be sure to go on to www.missuniverse.com to get a look at all of the contestants competing. Be sure to contact us at consultant@sonomahair.comĀ to learn more about our products.

The Bridesmaid Bun
āTis the season of the bridesmaid ā not the bride. Ā I donāt know about you gals, but I feel like I have a bunch of friends who are engaged or waiting patiently to be engaged ā and that only means one thingā¦. Bridesmaid duties! Itās our role to keep our beloved bride happy. We are there at the blushing bridesā beck and call, doing whatever she says with the occasional eye roll, but with a heart of good intent. This also includes the dictatorial command to wear the frock that she picks and our hair in the style that she demands. Some of us are lucky, with an absolutely fab bride who has amazing choices, and some of us arenāt so lucky⦠(Ill leave it at that). I am one of the more fortunate to be in a wedding of a friend with great choices. My bride has recently sent out the hair demands for the big day. Her only stipulation ā the hair must be up and off of the shoulders. This request got me thinking about classic bun up doās that complement the classic wedding and can also look great on a girls night out (with Red NARS matte lips of course). Without further ado, here are my favorite buns.
To have the fullest and best bun, you will want to have hair extensions if you donāt have Ā the hair to create your style. You can either do this using SONOMA Hair clip-ins, clipping the hair strategically so that the clips arenāt revealed when you put the hair up.Ā You can get a sew in using our premium hair wefts. Just advise your stylist to leave out the entire exterior (the front and nape) of your hair. Ensure that your braids are flat and small. This will allow your ponytail to be smooth and blended.
When you are pinning your hair into the bun pattern, these bobby pins are the best to use.
Pin into your selected style. Remember, practice makes perfect! Be effortlessly and classically chic whether you are supporting your friend in a wedding or if you are turning heads on Friday night out!
SONOMA Hair Collection can help you with the lengths and fullness. Email consultant@sonomahair.com and we will be happy to consult you.
Always,
MISS SONOMA
SONOMA Hair Chronicles: Rule Breakers
I was in the post office today after sneaking out of the office to collect a package that housed a pair of Fendi shoes that I got from the Saks Fifth Avenue sale. As I stepped to the counter to hand the post officer my slip, I could feel someone watching me. I slowly turned around and saw a girl I knew who SCREAMED across the post office āWhereād all of that hair come from? Last time I saw you, you had a short crop!ā ā (Oh NO she didnātā¦) Well folks, there were different ways that I could have responded; the most suitable being me grabbing the post officers stamp and reeling it at her head in hopes of it knocking her to the floor and silencing her. However, I chose to be mature, as I looked in her direction (2 seconds longer for impact), looked back at the officer and then continued with my business. I didnāt acknowledge her at all. I left miffed with the situation, but my package cheered me up ;). So as an ode to the big mouth, I am goingĀ to share with you 3 majorĀ rule breakers when it comes to my hair.
1) The Investigator
Ā The Investigators plight in life is to figure out whether you are wearing a weave or hair extensions. So, your hair is fabulous as usual, and whilst it isnāt a secret that you wear weaves, (since you change your hair ALL the time), every time you get it done, you fool even the best of hair experts with your perfect blending. This is something that you pride yourself on and it is the bain of the investigators existence. They usually have a hand slip to the back of your head when they give you a hug ā to see if they feel tracks of course, or as you are talking to them, you can usually watch their eyes travel to the top of your head to see if they can work out where your hair merges with the extensions. You want to tell them to snap out of it and get a life, but the best revenge is to have your bouncy Virgin Remy swipe them as you swish your head around and exit stage left.
2) The Gawker
The Gawker usually comes in the form of a friend or co-worker. One day, they get up and decide that they want a different look or that they want hair like yours. They pull you aside and ask you where you get your hair done and you reveal that its not all yours (to their shock). You sympathize with your friend and out of the kindness of your heart, you share where you buy your hair and how they can get some. To your chagrin, you are met with gawking on how much you spend on your hair, EVEN though you break down that they spend more for their hair every month and that yours is an investment that has lasted you for months!. Walk away slowly from a gawker. The math wonāt add up and your business is your business. Just choose carefully who you choose to share with going forward!
Ā 3) The Faux Stylist
So you decide to go forĀ something differentĀ and try a natural look (without the years of going natural) and youĀ purchase some Caribbean curly hair. Your new look has heads turning and you have a new spring in your step. There is that one friend (or relative) that always has to rain on the parade and tell you that your hair is too long, thick, or loud. This is typically a person who is desperately in need of a makeover themselves and has no room dishing out advice. My response usually goes something like ā Thanks so much for your advice Donatella Versace⦠but I think I know the look that I was going forā. PUH-LESE save your advice for someone who cares!
Our hair is a major outlet of our individual expression and we ought to be able to make changes without feeling outside pressure! SONOMA Hair Collection is here to help you to achieve the look you are going for and to support you along the way. We’d love to hear from you. consultant@sonomahair.com
Till next time,

‘Sealing’ the deal
Hey Girls ā As the SONOMA Hair Boutique launch approaches, I want to begin to give some pointers on how to preserve and protect the Remy hairĀ – (both our Natural and Match Collections), that you will hopefully purchase. For many of us, hair is not just a necessary accessory, itās a major investment!Ā Its our form of mutual funds and appreciating valuable good. So, itās only natural that we should protect and treat the Remy hair like something to be treasured and cared for. Like anything, the better that it is cared for, the longer that it lasts, and the less of it you have to purchase, (unless you want a new look!)
One of the major ways that hair loses its value is by the shedding that takes place.Ā Even if hair is wefted perfectly, there may be a small degree of hair that sheds. One of the best hair investment preservation strategies that that I have learned is to seal the wefts of the hair ā very simple yet USEFUL practice.
The weft of the hair is the strip of hair at the top, in which the hair is sewn together to form a bundle of hair that can be used to be sewn or bonded to your hair for hair extensions/enhancement
Using a fabric fray sealant, which can be found at any craft store or Walmart, when you apply it to the weft, it secures the weft and prevents shedding! Simple. Some of the best sealants that Ive used have been Dritz Fray Check and Fray Block.
Ā
The bestĀ method that IĀ use is to take a towel and place it on your iron board. Put the weft of hair on the board and begin to seal! Sealing is the act of applying the seal solutin only on the weft, being very careful not to get any of the solutionĀ on the hair.Ā Ā Seal the hair on both side and let dry for 20 mins. Your hair is then ready for install!
Ive found this video that will give you a good visual of what Ive just described above.
Lets protect our hair investment by sealing our wefts.
Happy Sealing.
